OCEAN BAULCOMBE-TOPPIN (b. 1996, London) practices in trust and hope. She works mindfully with objects, language, prints, and nuanced interactions to craft a contemporary philosophy inspired by her spirituality, Caribbean/British heritage, and ceremonies of solace.
Recent presentations of her work include exhibitions and performative gestures at Metroland Cultures, London; Nottingham Contemporary, Nottingham; Somerset House, London; Harlesden High Street, London; the Freud Museum, London; Deptford Cinema, London; and South London Gallery. She is an Associate Lecturer at Chelsea College of Arts.
EBUN SODIPO (b. 1993) makes work for black trans people of the future. Guided by black feminist study, with a methodology of collage and fabulation, her work locates and produces real and imaginable narratives of black trans women’s presence, embodiment, and interiority across the past, present, and future. In doing this, Sodipo fills in historical gaps to create moments of archival pleasure for black trans people. This work takes place across multiple spaces: galleries, festivals, theatre, digital, and print; in varied forms such as sound, performance, text, installation, video, and sculpture.
She has recently been exhibited in institutions and galleries including Vitrine, Basel; Goldsmiths CCA, London; VISUAL Centre for Contemporary Art, Carlow, IR; FACT Liverpool; The Block Museum of Art, Evanston, USA; VO Curations, London; Chaos Magic, Nottingham. She has performed and read at Turner Contemporary, Margate; Camden Arts Centre, London; South London Gallery, London; Autoitalia, London; Arebyte Gallery, London; Jupiter Woods, London; Bergen Kunsthall, NO; Frieze London 2021.
